Maryanne Toups was born in New Orleans, Louisiana, one of the world's foremost centers of fine art. Her passion is making beautiful artwork. She began her art studies as a child and has been drawing for at least thirty years. Over the years, Maryanne has taken numerous classes in painting, drawing, sculpture and pottery. During her school years, she mainly studied through books and took a few evening classes at Tulane University when her children were young. Maryanne has studied oil, acrylic, charcoals and pastels. Beginning in 1988, she studied with a local artist sculpting clay and continued with the potter's wheel to add another dimension to her clay work. Maryanne has taught at the Summer Art Camp for children and has taught basket weaving for over 20 years.

In addition to creating beautiful art, Maryanne is also a skilled furniture maker and designed and built Shaker-style furniture for 30 years. She owned and operated her own business, a gift shop called the Shaker Bench from 1988 to 2000 in Covington, LA. Maryanne also sold her pottery and original basketry at The Shaker Bench. Her store also represented artists from all over the country. She also managed the Berkeley Gallery in Abita Springs, LA and was the curator of several art openings. "My inspirations are nature, music, people, Love always Love, Shakespeare, poetry and LIFE. I've noticed how it all comes into play when I'm working on a new piece. I began designing at an early age and my interest in the various arts has come out of my quest to know more about each one I create. I am never satisfied. I have a need to know more. I never know enough."
